Oil joins silver at the maximum cycle alert as US sectors enter the bottoming table — April 28, 2026

The Tuesday tape opened with a somber tone. US equity futures were mixed pre-market — S&P 500 futures down 0.11%, Dow futures up 0.14%, Nasdaq futures down 0.36%, the Russell 2000 roughly flat — as Brent crude rallied another 2.4% to near $110.85 on reports the Trump administration is “not happy” with Iran’s latest proposal, the Bank of Japan delivered a hawkish hold (three of nine board members voted for a hike, inflation forecasts were raised), and the Wall Street Journal reported OpenAI fell short of internal revenue and user goals — raising fresh questions about the firm’s ability to fulfill its massive infrastructure obligations. European markets traded firmer with basic resources, banks, insurance, staples, energy and utilities leading; Asia mostly traded lower with the Hang Seng down 0.95% and the Shanghai Composite off 0.19%. Treasury yields rose 1-2bp across the curve in response to the further oil rally. The dollar firmed 0.15%, gold fell 1.15%, silver dropped 2.75%, and Bitcoin slipped to $76,800. Our cycle model is reading the same signal that Brent’s price is now confirming on the upside: oil has deepened to a Consensus Score of -80, joining silver at the maximum reading on the topping table.

The earnings backdrop is the busiest week of the season and frames the cycle table reshuffle. The macro backdrop remains unusual — oil prices and bond yields rising simultaneously while volatility stays subdued, leadership concentrated in semiconductors and AI infrastructure, and the SPX approaching 7,200 with a market priced for an Iran resolution that has not yet arrived. Our cycle model is reading the rotation underneath: Nvidia eases out of its prior bottoming-table peak, two US sectors (Financials and Real Estate) enter the bottoming side for the first time, and the commodity topping cluster narrows as Soybean drops out and Oil deepens to match Silver.

Our daily cycle analysis filters approximately 45 international core assets through the CycleConsensus model to identify statistically relevant cyclical topping or bottoming phases. The score ranges from -100 (extreme bearish) to +100 (extreme bullish). Assets at or beyond ±60 are in the critical zone where the conditions for a cyclical turn are statistically elevated. The cRSI column adds a momentum confirmation layer. Let’s take a closer look.
